Chinese Authorities Punish Taiwan Independence Movement; Mainland Affairs Council Announces Travel Warning to China Upgraded to 'Orange'

Reported 9 months ago

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) in Taiwan has announced that the travel warning to China and Hong Kong/Macau has been upgraded to 'orange' (avoid non-essential travel) as a response to China's recent imposition of the '22 measures to punish Taiwan independence,' which includes severe penalties like the death sentence. The MAC urged Taiwanese nationals to avoid non-essential travel to mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau due to increasing national security laws and risks to personal safety, as well as recent regulations targeting 'separatists.' The council advised citizens to be cautious when traveling to these regions and provided guidelines to minimize risks, such as refraining from sensitive topics, taking certain types of books, and registering travel plans with the council.
