Chinese-owned chipmaker Nexperia, based in the Netherlands, plans to invest $200 million to expand its main production site in Hamburg, Germany. This uncommon computer chip investment in Europe without state subsidies comes as the EU investigates potential unfair Chinese subsidies for basic chips. Nexperia focuses on power semiconductors and is increasing capacity to meet growing demand for chips in sectors like electric cars, green energy, and digitalization.
