In recent years, China has continuously used gray zone operations against Taiwan, with Chinese ships intruding into the waters near Taiwan. An incident involving a Chinese boat breaching the Tamsui River highlighted potential security vulnerabilities. Experts warn that such intrusions pose a significant threat to Taiwan's political and economic center, emphasizing the need for enhanced monitoring and air surveillance to effectively prevent future incidents. Su Ziyun, director of the National Defense Strategy Research Institute at the National Defense University, suggests strengthening sea defense with better radars and investing in mid-term aerial patrol planes for long-term surveillance efforts.
