On the evening of July 2, 2024, while Taiwanese fishermen were operating in waters off Kinmen, they were boarded and detained by Chinese coast guard vessels. Six individuals were taken back to Fujian, with the Taiwan Coast Guard avoiding a confrontation and the Mainland Affairs Council set to coordinate for their early release. The fishing boat, named 'Da Jin Man 88,' from Penghu, was involved in the incident. The captain, surnamed Hong, contacted the Coast Guard for help but was unsuccessful in preventing the Chinese coast guard from taking the crew. The incident marks a more severe action compared to previous encounters, where individuals were often just dispersed rather than being taken back to China.
