A fishing boat from Penghu, Taiwan, was inspected and taken back by a Chinese coast guard ship while fishing near Kinmen, with the captain and five foreign workers on board being detained in China. This incident, occurring in the midst of heightened cross-strait tensions, is seen by Penghu fishermen as a form of retaliation against President Lai Ching-te. The Taiwan Coast Guard dispatched a patrol boat to the area but arrived too late to rescue the detained individuals. The situation remains unresolved as discussions between Taiwan and China authorities continue.
