On July 2, 2024, the Taiwanese fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' from Penghu was intercepted by the Chinese Coast Guard off Kinmen Island, resulting in the confiscation of the boat and five crew members. The Chinese Coast Guard claimed that the Taiwanese boat violated fishing ban regulations during the offseason and used illegal trawling gear within the restricted fishing area. The Coast Guard emphasized that the boat's gear was smaller than the national minimum mesh size, causing harm to marine resources and the ecological environment. Additionally, attempts by the Taiwanese vessel to interfere with Chinese law enforcement led to warnings and ultimatums. Taiwanese authorities responded, asserting their request for the boat's release within the limits of coast guard radar coverage and highlighting the complexity in handling such incidents to avoid escalation.
