On July 3, 2024, Chinese coast guard officials boarded and seized a fishing boat from Penghu, Taiwan, named 'Da Jin Man 88', for illegal fishing activities in a restricted zone, using fishing nets smaller than the minimum size required by China. This incident caused strong dissatisfaction from Taiwan. This is not the first time Taiwanese fishing boats have been seized by Chinese authorities for violating fishing regulations, but despite paying fines in previous instances, the boats were released promptly. Chinese coast guard's enforcement tactics have become more aggressive and extensive, with patrols in various areas and increased law enforcement intensity.
