Taiwan Television News Network reported on July 2, 2024, at 9:36 am (updated at 22:59 | CGA press release). The Penghu fishing boat Da Jin Man 88 was operating in the waters near Kinmen on the evening of the 2nd when it was approached by two Chinese coast guard ships, who took photos, forcibly inspected the boat, and attempted to take it back to China. Dozens of other Penghu fishing boats were also operating in the nearby waters, being monitored by additional Chinese coast guard ships. The Coast Guard Administration immediately responded by dispatching patrol vessels to intercept the situation and protect the Taiwanese fishing boats. Despite efforts, the Chinese coast guard boats did not release the Taiwanese boat, and to avoid escalating conflict, pursuit was halted. The boat was ultimately taken to an area near Jinjiang, China. The Coast Guard Administration urges China to release the detained boat promptly through cross-strait channels to avoid further damage to bilateral relations.
