Under strengthened supervision of capital markets in China, the number of companies listed on the mainland that are under investigation by the China Securities Regulatory Commission has significantly increased. From January to May 2024, 48 mainland-listed companies were under investigation, reaching a record high for the same period (in 2022 and 2023, the numbers were around 10 and 20 respectively). Concerns about information disclosure violations are the main reason for these investigations. It is anticipated that the total number of investigations in 2024 may set a new record for the year if current trends continue. The regulatory scrutiny reflects efforts to maintain market order, protect investors' rights, and promote resource optimization.
