The 'Two Lakes Forum,' a mechanism for local government exchanges between Taiwan and China, was hosted by Nantou County this year. However, it was reported that the application by Nantou County to bring advance officials from Hangzhou City to Taiwan was blocked by the Taiwanese government. The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) explained that the county initially applied to the Ministry of Culture, which deemed it outside their examination scope, and the county did not proceed with a further application. MAC indicated that as of the present, Nantou County has no intention of reapplying, although they are planning to hold the forum at the end of September. However, there has been no clear response from the Chinese side.
