On June 12, 2024, a Chinese drone flew over Kinmen and dropped political leaflets from the sky, with the incident being live-streamed on Douyin. The spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office, Chen Binhua, stated that this was a spontaneous expression of Chinese netizens' desire for reunification and opposition to Taiwan independence. Despite the attempt to drop leaflets near Kinmen University and the county police station, the leaflets drifted elsewhere due to the wind. The Kinmen Defense Command criticized the actions as provocative and aimed at seeking media attention rather than improving cross-strait relations, emphasizing the need for lawful behavior when flying small aircraft or releasing objects in relevant areas.
