A suspected Chinese state-sponsored hacking group, known as RedJuliett, has intensified attacks on Taiwanese organizations, particularly in government, education, technology, and diplomacy sectors. The cyber espionage was observed during the lead up to Taiwan's presidential elections in early 2024, with RedJuliett targeting 24 organizations in various countries including Taiwan. The hacking group exploited vulnerabilities in the SoftEther enterprise virtual private network software to access servers, aiming to collect intelligence and support Chinese policy-making on cross-strait relations.
