According to an official financial report released recently in China, multiple local governments have been found misappropriating over 19.51 billion RMB (approximately 87.3 billion NTD) of student nutrition subsidies to repay local debts and other expenses. This action has sparked criticism from Chinese netizens. The misuse was uncovered in 66 counties, with 41 counties and 1533 schools lowering meal standards and manipulating procurement processes to divert around 270 million RMB (approximately 1.2 billion NTD). Additionally, five county education departments colluded with winning suppliers to embezzle 42.16 million RMB (approximately 190 million NTD) for various welfare disbursements.
