A Chinese man drove a speedboat into Tamsui on June 9, prompting questions on why the Coast Guard did not intercept him at sea. Mainland Affairs Council Chairperson expressed regret over the security lapse and ordered disciplinary actions. The Coast Guard revealed that out of 18 cases of illegal entry to Taiwan from last year to present, most occurred on outlying islands, with Kinmen having the highest number. The motivation behind this incident, where the man claimed to be seeking freedom, is under investigation.
