Reported about 1 year ago

A mainland Chinese man surnamed Ruan was caught steering a speedboat to illegally cross into Taiwan via the Tamsui River on June 9th. The Coast Guard admitted negligence in communication and coordination, leading to the improper handling of the situation. As a result, the Coast Guard held a disciplinary meeting on June 11th, punishing 10 individuals including the Deputy Chief, North Division Chief, and security personnel with warnings or reprimands for their failures. The incident raised concerns of potential military intentions as the Tamsui River mouth is part of a key defense area, and the Coast Guard vowed to enhance monitoring to prevent similar oversights in the future.
