On June 11, 2024, a Mainland Chinese man drove a speedboat directly into the mouth of the Tamsui River and was arrested by the Coast Guard at Fisherman's Wharf. This incident led to public scrutiny of the Coast Guard's enforcement process, resulting in disciplinary actions against ten personnel. Former Legislator Guo Zhengliang criticized the system, not individuals, for the flawed security structure, sparking discussions. The Coast Guard held a press conference on June 11 to address the situation and the disciplinary outcomes, acknowledging operational lapses and promising accountability through an internal investigation. Guo Zhengliang further questioned the lack of detection systems at critical locations like Tamsui, emphasizing serious flaws in Taiwan's maritime defense system and calling for enhanced supervision by the Navy and Coast Guard units.
