A Chinese man surnamed Ruan, who entered Taiwan by boat and was captured after crashing into a ferry terminal, expressed no regrets for coming to Taiwan. Formerly a naval captain in the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Ruan claimed he came to Taiwan seeking freedom. The Shilin District Court determined that Ruan's meticulous criminal activities posed a threat to national security, and he was detained and denied visitation rights pending further investigation by the prosecutor's office due to concerns of him being a flight risk. The National Security Bureau will probe his motives for coming to Taiwan.
