Chinese Pepper Prices Doubled due to Speculative Trading

Reported about 1 year ago

In China, there has been a surge in the prices of various imported spices in the traditional Chinese medicine market, with pepper (including white and black pepper) experiencing the most significant price increases. Traders attribute this to speculative trading rather than actual changes in market demand. The prices of pepper and other spices have escalated in regions like Guangxi and Anhui provinces, with black pepper reaching 60-70 RMB per kilogram and white pepper surpassing 90 RMB per kilogram in some areas.
