Reported about 1 year ago

On July 7, 2024, the Chinese research vessel 'Jia Geng' entered Taiwan's eastern waters. Taiwan ADIZ, a military fan page, reported civilian teams witnessing the vessel operating near Taiwan's east coast, coming within 24 nautical miles of the neighboring area and around 20 nautical miles from Yilan's Wushibi. Tsai Ming-yen, head of the National Security Bureau, confirmed that during the vessel's activities, no subsea facilities were deployed, likely focusing on hydrological data collection. The vessel was monitored by Taiwan's Coast Guard and redirected away. Tsai also emphasized that any activities of Chinese vessels in Taiwan's vicinity, whether research or fishing vessels, are closely monitored to ensure national security.
