Reported about 1 year ago
On June 9, a 60-year-old Chinese man named Ruan Fangyong drove a small speedboat into Taiwan's Tamsui River estuary and was later arrested by the coast guard. The naval spokesperson explained that due to the small size of the speedboat, it was difficult to detect it with shore radars. The incident sparked controversy with the coast guard clarifying that while their surveillance system did not miss the intrusion, a radar operator mistakenly identified the speedboat as a fishing vessel, resulting in a delay of dispatching patrol boats for interception and inspection. The Navy assured that they will enhance target detection and coordination in the future.
