On June 27, 2024, a Chinese student in Japan, suspected of riding an 'electric suitcase' without a license on a sidewalk in Osaka, was referred to the prosecutors. This incident marks the first case in Japan where the use of an 'electric suitcase' resulted in legal action under the Road Traffic Law, as it is treated similarly to a light motorcycle. The student denied awareness of the vehicle's status as a transportation device or the need for a license.
