During a questioning session in the Legislative Yuan on June 18, 2024, regarding Taiwan's defense policies, Kuomintang legislator Chu Wing-ling brought out an early 'Chrysanthemum' map of the Republic of China, urging for a counterattack on the mainland, leading to controversy. In response, Taiwanese Premier Cho Jung-tai stated that the Republic of China had recognized the independence of Outer Mongolia in 1946. Cho also praised Democratic Progressive Party legislator Tsai Yi-yu for his understanding of Mongolia's history and current situation, suggesting that Tsai invite Chu to visit Mongolia to increase her understanding. Defense Minister Koo Li-hsiung emphasized that the effective governance areas of the Republic of China are Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, and reiterated that there are no plans to counterattack the mainland.
