Chung Chen Market: 514 Cases of Food Poisoning from Vietnamese Bread, Owner Sentenced to 8 Months in First Trial with 2-Year Probation

The owner of 'Ah Chen Vietnamese-French Bread' in the market, a Vietnamese woman surnamed Nguyen, settled with 283 affected individuals for over 2.24 million after 514 cases of food poisoning were reported last August. She was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 2-year probation by the Taoyuan District Court for violating food safety laws. The bread caused panic among diners and was found to contain bacteria causing gastrointestinal distress. Nguyen confessed to the crime during the investigation and compensated some victims, with remaining cases pending settlement.
