On July 7, 2024, Lin Shijie, a director of a fisheries association in Tainan city, was shot dead by a gunman outside his home while going to climb a mountain, causing shock in society. Tainan Mayor Huang Weizhe expressed regret and shock, emphasizing that the police will investigate thoroughly. The gunman fired 9 shots at Lin Shijie, hitting him 3 times critically, and despite being rushed to Chi Mei Hospital, he was pronounced dead. The case has prompted calls for justice and safety in the community.
