On July 1, 2024, Su Tseng-chang, the Premier, presented suggestions addressing the national security crisis of declining birth rates, proposing that household registration units can cross-reference unmarried young adults of marriageable age and married individuals without children to relevant agencies and introduce incentive policies. This was criticized as a privacy infringement. Su Tseng-chang clarified on July 2 that he aims to enhance and assist household registration colleagues more accurately in the future, utilizing various technological advancements to effectively implement policies and incentive measures, emphatically stating that there is absolutely no overstepping of current work. Su visited the Legislative Yuan for a government report and pointed out that the brief statements made the day before may have caused misunderstandings, explaining that while presenting an award at the Household Registration Day event, the focus was on how a sound household registration system could assist government in population planning and recognizing outstanding contributions in implementing population policies addressing gender equality, declining birth rates, aging population, immigration, and promotion efforts.
