On July 3, 2024, at 12:00 AM, the Penghu-registered fishing vessel 'Da Jin Man 88' was forcibly boarded and detained by Mainland Chinese maritime police while located 23.7 nautical miles northeast of Lulugang, Kinmen. Despite the urgent report by the captain, they were taken back by the Mainland authorities. The Coast Guard's rescue footage was also revealed, as they broadcasted messages demanding release but were warned not to interfere. The Coast Guard Bureau dispatched vessels to intercept and rescue the Taiwanese fishing vessel, but faced resistance from the Mainland Chinese maritime police. The vessel has now been taken back to Weitou Port by the Mainland authorities, and further negotiations will be handled by the Mainland Affairs Council and Fisheries Agency through cross-strait channels. The Coast Guard Bureau urges the Mainland side not to politicize the incident and to release the vessel and crew promptly following proper procedures.
