In Taichung, Taiwan, in 2019, Chen Hongjia brutally murdered his girlfriend and their 10-month-old twin sons in a fit of jealousy. After suffocating his girlfriend after a quarrel, he placed the twins in a washing machine and sealed it with blankets, leaving them to die. Although initially sentenced to death, the Supreme Court overturned the verdict to life imprisonment based on Chen's traumatic upbringing and mental health issues, as well as his remorse and willingness to participate in rehabilitation and compensation for the victims' family.
