As the scorching summer weather hits Taiwan, netizens have been complaining about the ineffective air-conditioning in public spaces like MRT stations and train stations, with some even likening it to not being turned on at all. This has led to heated discussions online, with some questioning the logic of not making public spaces cooler to attract people especially in such hot weather. In response to complaints about sweltering conditions on public transport, the government had implemented a 'temperature restriction order' in 2023, regulating indoor air conditioning temperatures to not drop below 23 degrees Celsius in public areas as an energy-saving measure, although there are currently no penalties for non-compliance.
