An appropriately increased recall threshold can prevent it from becoming a tool for political retaliation, but the DPP caucus is fully committed to opposing it based on deviation from public opinion and involving self-interest. Legislator Hsu Yu-chen of the KMT pointed out concerns over the misuse of recall rights damaging political stability, referring to past versions proposed by DPP legislators Yu Mei-nu and Ku Li-hsiung while serving as legislators. Hsu emphasized the need for a robust mechanism to protect democratic systems from being abused, cautioning against recall being used for political struggle, which could weaken the foundation of democracy.
