Confusion and Clinic Closures Cause Declines in Contraception Use

Reported about 1 year ago

A study from the University of California Los Angeles shows that clinic closures, confusion surrounding the legality of emergency contraceptives, and misinformation about these drugs being called abortion medications have led to significant drops in the rate of prescriptions for contraceptives in states with strict abortion bans post-Dobbs decision. Conversations regarding access to contraception have sparked confusion among residents and pharmacists, resulting in a more than 70% drop in obtaining emergency contraceptives through prescription in certain states. Efforts to protect access to contraception have faced obstacles, leading to concerns about unintended pregnancies and limited choices for women in need.
