Connie Chiang Reaffirms Being a Proud Chinese When Returning to Taiwan

Reported 8 months ago

While attending a forum in China last week, KMT Vice Chairman Connie Chiang sparked controversy by stating that as a true Taiwanese, one can also be a proud Chinese. At today's KMT Central Standing Committee meeting, Chiang reiterated the importance of being a proud Chinese but emphasized that the Republic of China represents China. Despite alignment with the KMT's cross-strait stance, Chiang's remarks could still be misconstrued and potentially impact the party's grassroots support. However, KMT legislators and officials defended Chiang's remarks in line with the ROC Constitution and Cross-Strait Relations Act.
