Constitutional Battle Begins! Lack of Consensus on Parliament's Representatives Leads to Breakdown of Cross-Party Consultation with Decision Made through Voting

Reported about 1 year ago

Today in the political center on July 5, 2024 at 2:42 AM, the Speaker of the Legislative Yuan, Han Kuo-yu, focused on amending the Parliament's powers constitutional law. Representatives from the Legislative Yuan and legal counsels held cross-party consultations. However, there was a lack of consensus on selecting representatives, leading to a breakdown in talks. Eventually, after further negotiations, representatives and legal counsels were agreed upon through a voting process, with 2 recommendations from the blue camp and 1 from the white camp. The Constitutional Court has scheduled temporary measures for the One Government, Three Institutions constitutional case, with preparations set for July 10 and oral arguments on August 6. The lack of agreement led to a vote, with the final decision assigning representatives as proposed.
