According to a report by Central News Agency on June 15, 2024, the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) is considering turning the Taiwan Strait into a 'Hellscape' constructed by drone ships to ensure any Chinese invasion of Taiwan ends in failure. Minister of National Defense Gu Li-hsiung responded that the military will continue to acquire various types of drones and discuss further with the Indo-Pacific Command. Gu emphasized the need for a diverse drone arsenal to quickly build up combat capabilities and coordinate with the U.S. The 'Hellscape' strategy also involves considerations of command control, identification, and coordination with the U.S. for effective defense operations.
