Construction Site in Linkou, a Fatality Occurred for 2 Consecutive Years, Fined 150,000 due to Multiple Violations

Reported 8 months ago

In Linkou, New Taipei City, the construction site managed by Chuherng Construction saw fatalities due to falling workers for two consecutive years. Upon recent inspections by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the New Taipei City Government, issues like missing guardrails, faulty circuit breakers in electrical boxes, and open floor pipe openings were found. A fine of 150,000 was imposed, and work on various facilities and areas like construction scaffolding, electrical boxes, and floor openings was halted for improvements. The company involved, Chuherng Construction Co., owned by BaoJia Organization, had been lacking in safety management, leading to fatal accidents. Recent comprehensive inspections revealed ongoing deficiencies. Due to the rapid development of large-scale and high-rise construction projects in Taiwan, there's an increase in the risk of falling incidents, prompting the Ministry of Labor to designate 2024 as the 'Year of Combating Construction Industry Falls,' with strict measures in place for inspection, penalties, and work stoppages in case of major violations or accidents.
