Recent hot and humid weather conditions in various areas of Taoyuan have led to the occurrence of diseases and pests in rice crops, such as sheath blight, white leaf disease, stem borers, and brown planthoppers, with fields excessively fertilized with nitrogen particularly severely affected. Farmers express concerns over climate variability causing leaf damages, bacterial infections leading to white leaf disease, impacting photosynthesis and grain quality. The Taoyuan City Agriculture Bureau advises farmers on prevention measures, including balanced fertilizer use and avoiding entering fields during dew or rain to reduce disease spread, offering subsidies for crop protection chemicals.
