Controversial Parliamentary Powers Amendment Discussed in High-profile Meetings in Kaohsiung: Green Party's Chen Chi-mai and Blue Party to Feature Next Sunday by Eric Chu

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai and Minister of Environment Shen Chi-ming attended the Chai Mountain Clean-up activity today. In response to the Executive Yuan's reconsideration of the draft amendment on parliamentary powers, the Democratic Progressive Party has launched 'anti-expansion of powers, protect democracy' talks, with Mayor Chen Chi-mai set to participate in the anti-power-abuse talks in Kaohsiung with nine DPP legislators and City Council Speaker Kang Yu-cheng. The Kuomintang's 'Parliamentary Reform' explanation event in Kaohsiung will be held next Sunday, with Party Chairman Eric Chu leading and key figures in the 2026 Kaohsiung mayoral election from the blue camp, Kuomintang's Kaohsiung City Division Chief Ke Chih-en explaining the importance of parliamentary reform bills. DPP kicked off seven 'anti-power-abuse, protect democracy' talks nationwide, with the Kaohsiung event scheduled for tomorrow afternoon from 3 pm to 4:30 pm at the Nangang Community Center in Sinxing District, attended by Mayor Chen Chi-mai, DPP Central Party Deputy Secretary-General Ho Po-wen, Tainan legislator Wang Ting-yu, local legislators in Kaohsiung, and City Council Speaker Kang Yu-cheng. Mayor Chen pointed out that parliamentary reform especially involves people's rights and obligations, urging the Legislative Yuan to properly address the concerns and doubts surrounding the legislation process and its relation to constitutional rules. The KMT Kaohsiung City Division explained that the meeting on parliamentary reform will be held at the city division office's 6th floor next Sunday, with Eric Chu personally reporting to the people of Kaohsiung and explaining the parliamentary reform bills. In addition to Eric Chu, City Division Chief Ke Chih-en, legislator Chen Ching-hui, legislator Lin Chien-chi, and party councilors will be present to explain the importance of parliamentary reform bills and counter rumors and defamation against opposing parliamentary reform by the ruling party.
