On June 13, 2024, during a legislative meeting called by Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu regarding a review case, DPP legislators engaged in a heated argument with Han over speaking order. Unexpectedly, DPP caucus convener Ko Chien-ming was caught on the parliamentary live feed coming out of the meeting room appearing to smoke, leading to accusations of smoking indoors. KMT councilor Li Tsai-wei has reported the incident to the health authority, with potential fines up to $10,000 and a demand for a public apology from Ko. Smoking is harmful to health. This incident has sparked controversy and political debates between the blue and green camps.
