Upon returning to Taiwan to attend an endorsement event on June 18, (G)I-DLE's Taiwanese member, Yeh Shuhua, received backlash for being labeled a pro-Taiwan independence artist after a photo surfaced showing her with Taiwanese celebrities like Ko Chen-Tung and others. This led to Chinese netizens unfollowing and calling for her removal from the group. The incident escalated further when some questioned why Taiwanese singer Zhou Ziyu, despite being from Taiwan, receives little support from the local entertainment industry, sparking anger among Taiwanese netizens who blamed the situation on others. The controversy also resurfaced past issues when Zhou Ziyu, at 16, apologized publicly for holding Taiwanese nationality, leading to criticism towards those responsible for the treatment she received. The incident stirred discussions among netizens and raised concerns about the treatment of Taiwanese artists in the entertainment industry.
