A well-known domestic appliance manufacturer in the country found itself embroiled in a workplace sexual harassment controversy as multiple female employees were coerced into wearing maid outfits to celebrate their boss's birthday. The official fan page posted a series of photos from the event, leading to accusations of gender inequality and objectification of women. Following escalating criticism, the company swiftly deleted the related photos, but faced continued backlash from numerous disgruntled netizens. An online post alleged that female employees were only informed about a performance at the boss's birthday celebration without details on the attire requirements, which resulted in majority of the female staff feeling uncomfortable as they were pressured to wear the outfits in front of male colleagues. The company's response claiming that female employees had previewed the performance attire did little to appease critics, who condemned the incident as an example of workplace gender inequality and called for public condemnation and resistance against workplace harassment.
