Cultural historian Zhang Zhe-sheng shared the historical background of these seats, which were originally established to commemorate the anniversary of former President Chiang Kai-shek's death. Zhang advocated for every seat to be a courtesy seat, encouraging people to voluntarily give up their seats to those in need.
