Recent incidents of disputes over giving up seats for disabled passengers on public transport have reignited the debate on the necessity of priority seats. Toxicology expert Professor Zhao Mingwei shared his experience of being asked to give up his seat while his hand was dislocated on a bus, expressing frustration and questioning if he needed to demonstrate his hand falling off to be believed. He emphasized that priority seats are meant for those with physical vulnerabilities or mobility issues, not exclusively for the elderly, and suggested a more polite and understanding approach to avoid conflicts.
