Regarding the controversy over the decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plant Three and the water release for power generation being questioned for power shortage, Minister of Economy Guo Zhixui stated it was routine testing. The No. 1 unit of Nuclear Power Plant Three in Kenting, Pingtung will be decommissioned on July 27, with reduced operation starting on June 18. A one-hour blackout in Liuku Township, Pingtung County on the 15th caused discussions, with Taiwan Power Company attributing it to increased electricity usage due to the holiday crowd. The evening saw an all-time high instantaneous load, prompting suspicions of a power shortage. It was noticed on an online forum that Nuclear Power Plant Three activated diesel generators and the Feicui and Shimen reservoirs released water for power generation, raising concerns of a power shortage. Minister Guo clarified in an interview on the 18th that it was all routine testing to check the normal operation of power generation units, whether from the nuclear plant or reservoirs. He emphasized that there was no shortage of power and that the government was prepared for the decommissioning of the nuclear plant, ensuring no power outages will occur after July.
