Taiwanese representative in the US, Yu Da-Yan, faced allegations of lavish spending of public funds, including purchasing a new car and renovating the official residence for over 8 million New Taiwan dollars. His wife was also accused of abusing her influence over government officials. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the allegations, attributing the high expenses to inflation and denying approval for the car replacement.
