Recent inspections have revealed that corrosion cracking in the steam generators at Michigan's Palisades nuclear plant is much worse than previously anticipated, according to U.S. nuclear regulators. The findings come as the Biden administration has finalized a $1.52 billion loan guarantee to aid the plant's reopening, which aims to be the first modern U.S. nuclear facility to restart operations after shutting down. Holtec plans to repair rather than replace the affected steam generator tubes but still requires approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
