Former Taoyuan Mayor and chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsan, is suspected of involvement in corruption. The current Taoyuan Mayor, Chang Shan-cheng, mentioned a case where the city planned to expand land at the Huaya Industrial Area next to a graveyard, initially aiming for compulsory acquisition but eventually allowing landowners to redevelop it independently. Chang speculated that prosecutors might be interested in this unusual situation. Cheng was taken away by Taoyuan prosecutors yesterday morning, with overnight questioning and subsequent detention shocking various circles. Chang expressed hope for a thorough investigation to bring clarity to the case as soon as possible.
