Counter Attendant Develops Severe Paronychia After Trying to Alleviate Toe Pain by Shortening Nails and Resulting in Ingrown Nails Shaped Like Pencil, Cautioned of Cellulitis Risk

Reported 8 months ago

A 48-year-old counter attendant in Taiwan experiencing occasional toe pain from standing long hours at work attempted to alleviate the discomfort by shortening her toenails but unintentionally caused them to curve severely, resulting in ingrown nails shaped like pencils. Seeking aesthetics, she even applied false nails. However, her toenail pain worsened recently, leading to a diagnosis of chronic paronychia combined with ingrown nails. The dermatologist warned against cutting nails too short, as it may lead to ingrown nails and even cellulitis in severe cases. Proper nail care practices and preventive measures were advised by dermatologist Tsai Chang-you to avoid paronychia and ingrown nails.
