Former Mayor of Taoyuan and current Chairman of Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsang, suspected of bribery, was detained by the Taoyuan District Court but granted bail of 5 million NTD with travel restrictions. The court explained the reasons for the decision, stating that although Cheng did receive 5 million NTD in 2017, he returned it in 2018, and there is insufficient evidence to prove it was illegal gains. Despite denying the allegations, Cheng faces serious criminal suspicions related to bribery and leaking of confidential information, while others involved in the case have been detained. Due to various factors including the long duration of the case, Cheng was granted bail with restrictions and contact prohibitions. The prosecution filed an appeal against the decision.
