Reported about 1 year ago
Former Taoyuan Mayor Zheng Wen-Can, implicated in a corruption case, had initially been granted bail of 5 million NT dollars by Taoyuan District Court. However, the prosecution, citing the seriousness of the alleged crimes and the risk of collusion with witnesses, lodged an appeal requesting his detention. The High Court has now overturned the previous decision and sent the case back to Taoyuan District Court, which will hold a hearing on his detention at 10:00 AM. The Democratic Progressive Party’s Discipline Committee has also convened a meeting and resolved that if Zheng Wen-Can is detained, he will be suspended from the party for three years. Zheng’s defense lawyer, who is a member of the committee, has recused himself from the case.
