In Taiwan, the sixth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has arrived with 817 new local cases and 40 deaths reported last week, indicating a rise from the previous week. The majority of the 65 and older age group account for 90% of the cumulative deaths. The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control warns that the country is currently in a high phase of the pandemic and anticipates the situation to escalate further, with a possible peak period in mid-July. Vaccination efforts continue with approximately 2.8 million people vaccinated, urging those yet to receive the vaccine to do so for minimizing severe outcomes. High-risk groups are advised to get their second dose after 12 weeks for stronger protection.
