The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a record high of 932 COVID-19 cases with complications in a single week from June 25 to July 1, predicting a peak in mid-July with an estimated 120,000 weekly visits to emergency rooms. The increase in cases is concerning, with a rise in fatalities as well. Vaccination rates for the new XBB.1.5 variant are still low, emphasizing the need for effective protection against current strains.
